Book Cover Redesign

Objective

Design a typography-based book cover for an existing book. Consider the themes and imagery of the book in its overall design.

Carefully consider the font, colour scheme, and secondary imagery in your design. Include the author, book description, barcode, and all other required publishing information.

Solution

The novel Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is a beloved book that has an existing target market of kids, adults and literary enthusiasts. To compliment this audience, I included bold colours, playful typography, and a design inspired by its iconic imagery and rich themes which. I was particularly inspired by the famous scene of Alice falling down the rabbit hole which can be seen in the title letters falling independent of each other. Playing cards are also known in relation to the story and can be seen in the colour scheme and the suits throughout the design. Both the font (Times) and the clocks hands that create the ‘in’ were inspired by the character, the White Rabbit’s, pocket watch. The world of the novel is dreamlike filled with nonsensical rules which is echoed in the design that is both legible and chaotic, a perfect homage to a wonderful book.
